  • Round of 32 v. Nîmes

PSG defeats Nîmes 3-0, starting off 2007 with a modest win and a step towards defending their favorite trophy.
Two goals from Kalou and one from Pedro were sufficient to put away a comfortable win. Gallardo, playing behind the two forwards apparently showed some interesting possibilities but was not in top physical form given a month long break from football.
The team turned out in a 4-3-1-2 formation, with Hellebuyck, Mulumbu and Chantome forming the midfield three behind the argentine. A stable formation for the future or simply one option among many?

  • 42nd minute...still 0-0.

  • I can't find a stream, the game is on Eurosport.

  • Are tickets likely to be easily available for the cup game at the weekend?

  • Are tickets likely to be easily available for the cup game at the weekend?

That will be really easily available !!! ;)

  • The pitch was trully horrible, as to the game, wasn't really great, some bad passes, in part due to the field, etc. We really had trouble in the midfield.
But in the end, great goal after some terrific work done by Cebolla and then passing the ball to Kalou who was between 3 defenders and just had to push it in the goal. But overall again not a lot of golden opportunities, Gueugnon was well organized and their goalkeeper played well.

The team composition was also interesting, in the end we were playing with Pauleta Kalou Frau Rothen and Rodriguez all together on the field, and yet we couldn't manage to get more clearcut opportunities. I wonder if Clement could help us link the backline with our offense in the midfield, or if we should leave it to the youngsters to find their place.

  • Tommorow: 18h00 Paris
    PSG v. Valenciennes

    Paulo is bringing along
Landreau, Alonzo - Mendy, Armand, Yepes, Rozehnal, Dramé - Clément, Cissé, Rothen, Gallardo - Pauleta, Rodriguez, Kalou, Frau, Diané.

Chantome and Baning are suspended, while the former is still injured. PLG is leaving behind Mulumbu, Hellebuyck, Pancrate, Traoré, Cousin, Mabiala, Piètre, NGog

This is a dilemma because we need to stay in the competition, but we have a crucial game against Marseille on sunday, not only to restore our honor after they crushed us last time, and well, because they're marseille, but also to work our way up the table. Who will start?

Clement will be in the team after having been declared in form. Landreau will be in goal - how many matches has Alonzo played this season?

To me, that's exactly what a 2nd gardien is for; that is, that is the measure of whether someone qualifies as a back-up GK on a Ligue 1 squad...if you are not comfortable starting them in Cup competitions, then they are not good enough to be on the squad...let Alonzo play.

  • catfish, where exactly are you from in ohio...? i go to ohio every few months (columbus area and northwest of columbus in hardin county between lima and findlay)...

no stream link... never one when they play on eurosport unfortunately :(

there is a live audio link on the eurosport site that doesn't really work: http://www.eurosport.fr/football/mc_vid33218.shtml

so off to lequipe.fr and rmc info

    enjoy! ALLEZ PARIS!!!!

  • I just found out he is just 22, well that helps if he is good enough for us to build upon, and if he can help Mulumbu and Chantome with his experience. I guess he will replace PC, and in a way, Cisse and Hellebuyck

Otherwise, psg.fr, the club's official website, continues with a new video interview with Kalou, but also with a video of the goal:
    http://www.psg.fr/fr/matches/video/new/video.dml?id_match=2511

I just noticed looking back that besides Rodriguez fighting all the way to get the ball at the precise moment to Kalou, but mostly the great pass by Rothen.

I think this formation is a simply option among many for Lacombe.

Gallardo can play to the right, in the axis or to the left.

Paris can play in 442 as since the beginning of season with a middlefield consisted of Rothen / Hellebuyck - Chantome - Mulumbu / Cissé - Gallardo and Kalou behind Pauleta in attack.

But I think that the formation of the match against Nimes was the best because Gallardo is a very good 10.

  • phew! After a first half of total domination but an equally present inability to break down a well-drilled defense (and an excellent goalkeeper), the second half was packed with action.

Playing much higher than in the first period, Rothen (who was excellent throughout), Kalou, and Rodriguez (subbed into the game in the 54th minute) featured in a number of excellent attacks. This would result in a goal in the 65th minute where the three aforementioned would combine perfectly - Rothen delivering the ball to Rodriguez who then cut it back for Kalou who finished easily. The Gueugnonais would answer well with a number of corners and freekicks, but these were halted by an excellent defensive effort.

The end of the match, however, was much more difficult for PSG as Gueugnon took advantage of the Parisians' decision to defend the lead. While Pauleta came close with a shot scraping the post, Diego Gomez almost succeeded in lobbing Landreau from a corner but the latter was able to push it away. One minute later, a long ball and header finds Larsen Traore 16 meters out, who decides to take his chance with a scorching low shot on target but Landreau pulls off a magnificent save to deny the equalizer. In the 91st minute Hoarau rose up and delivered a great header that shaved the left post.

A tense match, but PSG managed to pull it off.
    PSG 1-0 Gueugnon

Interesting coaching by Le Guen, who decided to place Rothen in center midfield and Rodriguez on the left. Armand-Rothen-Rodriguez seem to have connected perfectly for the goal, the first two always having a great partnership and again, Armand served up a great ball at Rothen's feet. And Jerome, who was by all accounts impressive with his technique, gave a great pass to Rodrigo.
Good timing on the sub too...

  • PSG will play Valenciennes either on the 30th or 31st of January

It could've been worse, but remember our previous performances against valenciennes this year...

One thing to note, is that in all of the post-match reports, everyone (le guen, kalou, armand etc) has been complaining about the state of the pitch. Passes are going astray, taking weird bounces, etc. A club like this and a stadium like the Parc des Princes should have at least a decent field. However, the blame game is not the focus and it looks like the players are setting their minds to the task.

  • I was born and raised in Chicago. Moved to NW Ohio last January.
I'm about 2.5 hrs from Columbus. There are plenty of footie fans in Columbus.
Maybe we could meet up for a Crew game?

oh so you must know the area... my girlfriend's family lives around kenton (hardin county)... you're probably further north, closer to toledo...

    btw... 1-0 PSG!!!!!!!!!!! BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!

  • honestly, we really don't have that bad of a team... when you see that we have internationals like landreau, rozenhal, yepes, armand, rothen, clement, gallardo, pauleta, kalou...

i have to give some credit to our fellow investors at morgan, butler capital and co... they put their hand sin their pockets for this mercato and we got some greatly added talent!

i see a big psg win tomorrow following their great game against sochaux... lets just hope a) they don't get too worn out once the 2nd half arrives and b) the pitch survives
